Dance and Theater Companies
Westchester Dance Artists is a place where dancers do not compete against each other, but support each other. We are interested in giving our performers multiple opportunities to perform in a wide variety of venues, from large theaters to street fairs.
SO FUNKY TRAINING
This company is full of fun and vibrant performers who support each other as a dance team. In So Funky Training, you will learn the basics of hip-hop and also perform with each other in various venues.
So Funky is our most advanced urban choreography company. This company is under the direction of Wadi Jones. Dancers invited into these group must be high school age and advanced hip hop dancers with a minimum four to five years of experience. So Funky meets weekly, and these dancers must be available for additional rehearsals. They perform in many venues, and may have the opportunity to teach class.
Dance Artists is a company open to advanced teen dancers. Choreography ranges in all styles of dance, and is taught by Debralyn Press, Albert Guerzon, Lea Ono, and Guest Choreographers. Emphasis is placed on the dancer being part of the creative process. Class meets twice a week and company members are required to take minimum of 4 additional classes. Classes may include: 2-3 concert dance classes (ballet, modern, jazz, technique), 1 tricks and flips (if applicable), and one class of their choice.
JR. DANCE ARTISTS
Jr. Dance Artists is a company open to intermediate pre-teen and teens. Choreography ranges in all styles of dance, and is taught by Lea Ono, Debralyn Press, Albert Guerzon, Gianna Bartolini, and Guest Choreographers. Emphasis is placed on the dancer being part of the creative process. Class meets twice a week and company members are required to take minimum of 2 additional technique classes, Classes may include: 2 concert dance classes (ballet, modern, jazz, technique) and 1 tricks and flips (if applicable).
A unique company for the extremely advanced breaker, animator, etc. An invitation requires at least 4 years of prior training.
Hollow Back performs throughout Westchester on stage, street, local events and battles. This company is led by Wadi Jones and incorporates popping, locking, waving, breaking, gliding, hip hop, and stunts.
The Rhythm Riders are our very own street dance crew ran by Jack Lazarus. They compete and perform at competitions, and every semester showcase an intricate number blending all the styles of hiphop that they learned in the months leading up. Students will learn about the art of choreography making, hone their ability to improvise on stage, begin to develop their own style, and start their journey as a performative artist. This is an invite only class, a place for the serious students. So start your training with Jack’s open classes and maybe one day you will be picked as the new member of Rhythm Riders
