Dance and Theater Companies
Westchester Dance Artists is a place where dancers do not compete against each other, but support each other. We are interested in giving our performers multiple opportunities to perform in a wide variety of venues, from large theaters to street fairs.
In our youngest company, we just wanna let our students dance! Under the direction of Artistic Director Debralyn Press and teacher Jack Lazarus, this group was created to encourage our dancers to find their artistic voices and dance their hearts out. Dancers wishing to join this company must take one ballet, jazz, or hip hop class per week.
Open to advanced female-identifying dancers, this company features choreography created by Lèa Ono. Girl's Company creates works using hip-hop and fusion styles. Dancers wishing to join this company must be invited, and must take one technique class (ballet, jazz, or technique) and one hip hop class per week.
Dance Artists is a company open to advanced teen dancers by invitation. Choreography ranges in all styles of dance, and is taught by Debralyn Press, Albert Guerzon, Lea Ono, and Guest Choreographers. Emphasis is placed on the dancer being part of the creative process. Class meets twice a week and company members are required to take any two technique classes (ballet, jazz, or technique) and one hip hop class per week.
JR. DANCE ARTISTS
Jr. Dance Artists is a company open to intermediate pre-teen and teens by invitation. Choreography ranges in all styles of dance, and is taught by Lea Ono, Debralyn Press, and Guest Choreographers. This company meets once a week.
THE NEW CREW
The New Crew is an invitation-only company devoted to finding oneself as a dancer and learning how to master choreography with a hip-hop/fusion approach. Led by Jack Lazarus, this company meets once per week and requires its members to take one hip hop class and one animation or breakdance class per week.
Free Styles is an improvisation-based company open to dancers of any style and led by Jack Lazarus. This company is completely devoted to the art of improvisation and on developing members' ability to freestyle, create movement on the spot, and collaborate in creating works. This company meets once per week, and members are required to take either Creative Movement/Improvisation or Movement Exploration.
A unique company for the extremely advanced breaker, animator, etc. An invitation requires at least 4 years of prior training. In order to remain in this company, members must take an advanced hip hop class, one animation class, tricks and flips, and one movement exploration class.
Hollow Back performs throughout Westchester on stage, street, local events and battles. This company is led by Antonio Hutasoit.
The Rhythm Riders are a street dance crew run by Jack Lazarus. They showcase an intricate number blending all the styles of hip hop that they learned in the months leading up to their performances. Students will learn about the art of choreography making, hone their ability to improvise on stage, begin to develop their own style, and start their journey as a performative artist. This is an invite only class. Members are required to take one hip hop class and one animation or breakdance class.
The Lab is an invitation/audition based contemporary-theatre fusion company taught by Gianna Bartolini. In collaboration with the dancers, they will create and perform works in based in musical theatre and in contemporary dance ideas, expanding their repertoires and abilities across genres. This class meets once per week. Dancers are required to take two technique classes per week (ballet, jazz, or technique).
Ballet Company is a place for dancers to continue their training by learning classical and contemporary ballet pieces. Directed by Gianna Bartolini, dancers will learn classical works and develop original pointe pieces. Requirements for this class include an invitation, three ballet classes per week, and a minimum of one year wearing pointe shoes.
