Musical Theatre Jazz
Jazz is a fun, high-energy class that begins with a center warm-up, which is focused on and progresses through technical exercises focused on placement. Class continues with strengthening and stretching and moves into progressions across the floor. Students will build a dance vocabulary and develop a strong jazz technique.
Our jazz class focuses specifically on Jazz dance technique for musical theater.
We have three distinct levels of jazz:
Jazz 1: A class appropriate for dancers ages 7-10 where they will learn beginning jazz technique, traveling steps, and turns, as well as fun choreography to their favorite songs and showtunes.
Jazz 2: This class is appropriate for students ages 11-15 with prior experience in jazz, ballet, or technique. Dancers will continue to work on basics of jazz and technique, increasing in difficulty, while learning classical jazz and original choreography.
Jazz 3: This class is for dancers 14+ with experience in jazz, ballet, or technique. Dancers will continue developing their jazz technique while learning challenging classical and contemporary jazz choreography. Students will also begin developing themselves as performers and finding unique dance personalities.
The Lab: A class for dancers ages 11+, this class creates works in a collaborative manner, focusing on contemporary theatre fusion. This class strives to create works which tell stories and give dancers the skills and a voice to contribute to the creative process. This class expects participants to have a strong technical foundation and to always seek improvement in their dancing while maintaining a positive and self-affirming attitude.
