CONTEMPORARY, IMPROVISATION, AND CHOREOGRAPHY
Contemporary dance is a fusion of different dance styles, including ballet, modern, jazz, theatre, and even hip hop! Contemporary movement can be limited only by the imagination.
Our contemporary classes will explore partnering and weight sharing exercises, as well as improvisation techniques. Technical exercises will condition the body for strength and flexibility, and will encourage individual artistry and expressiveness. Improvisation is often a generator of contemporary movement and the basis of choreography and composing works. Improvisational exercises will be utilized to bring out each dancers' compositional and artistic abilities. Class placements are based on prior experience and technique. A background of ballet or jazz technique is required for placement in advanced contemporary classes. Offerings: Contemporary 1: A class appropriate for dancers ages 11-15 with prior experience in ballet, lyrical, or jazz.
