Specialty Classes and Companies
Westchester Dance Artists is a place where dancers do not compete against each other, but support each other. We are interested in giving our performers multiple opportunities to perform in a wide variety of venues, from large theaters to street fairs.
JUST DANCE- Ages 7-10
In our youngest creative group, we just wanna let our students dance! Taught by Artistic Director Debralyn Press and master teacher Jack Lazarus, this group was created to encourage our dancers to find their artistic voices and dance their hearts out. Dancers wishing to join this class must take one ballet, jazz, or hip hop class per week.
GIRL'S COMPANY- Ages 14+
Open to advanced female-identifying dancers, this company features choreography created by Lèa Ono. Girl's Company creates works using hip-hop and fusion styles. Dancers wishing to join this company must be invited, and must take one technique class (ballet, jazz, or technique) and one hip hop class per week.
DANCE ARTISTS- Ages 13+
Dance Artists is a company open to advanced teen dancers by invitation. Choreography ranges in all styles of dance, and is taught by Debralyn Press, Albert Guerzon, Lea Ono, and Guest Choreographers. Emphasis is placed on the dancer being part of the creative process. Class meets twice a week and company members are required to take any two technique classes (ballet, jazz, or technique) and one hip hop class per week.
JR. DANCE ARTISTS- Ages 10-14
Jr. Dance Artists is a company open to intermediate pre-teen and teens by invitation. Choreography ranges in all styles of dance, and is taught by Lea Ono, Debralyn Press, and Guest Choreographers. This company meets once a week.
THE NEW CREW- Ages 7+
The New Crew is a company focused on learning choreography using a fusion hip hop approach. Company members must be familiar with all street styles and ready to pick up choreography as a team, working toward making a company piece. Through this process members will leave with their own style and opinions on choreography making. Led by Jack Lazarus, this company meets once per week and requires its members to take one hip hop class and one animation or breakdance class per week.
FREE STYLES- Ages 11+
Free Styles is an improvisation-based company open to dancers of any style and led by Jack Lazarus. This company is completely devoted to the art of improvisation and on developing members' ability to freestyle, create movement on the spot, and collaborate in creating works. This company meets once per week, and members are required to take Creative Movement/Improvisation.
HOLLOW BACK- Ages 12+
A unique company for the extremely advanced breaker, animator, etc. An invitation requires at least 4 years of prior training. In order to remain in this company, members must take an advanced hip hop class and one animation class. Hollow Back performs throughout Westchester on stage, street, local events and battles. This company is led by Antonio Hutasoit.
RHYTHM RIDERS- Ages 8+
Rhythm Riders is a company devoted to making dance artists. Members will be expected to help create the choreography for the show, bringing their own approaches to the process while using all styles of street dance (which they all should have extensive knowledge in). Members will already have their own opinions on choreography making, as well as their own style as a freestyle artist. This is an invite only class. Members are required to take one hip hop class and one animation or break dance class.
CLASS OF CHAOS
Class Of C.H.A.O.S. (Creating happiness around oneself) is a dance company created by Wadi Jones under the umbrella of WDA. This company is designed to prepare our students for their professional lives as dancers and entertainers and create an environment for explorations, discovery and personal growth both mentally and physically, through the application of dance. The company will be broken up into two groups: JR. Chaos ages 8-12 and Class of Chaos 12+. WDA graduates are welcome to join and take classes with the Class of Chaos. Auditions will be held prior to class sign-up and students will be invited into either Chaos or Jr Chaos. Jr. Chaos will focus on fundamentals in hip hop and musicality along with building up confidence and technique within each student. Class of Chaos will focus on hip hop choreography that will be adapted and showcased through virtual media and live dance competitions. Each student will be given tools to guide them through personal development. Creating mental dexterity that will help them live powerful lives in the future, no matter what field of work they choose to pursue. This company is Audition Only.
